Meat is coming along much better than my baking
Well done. How are you preparing the chuck?
the chuck was just rubbed with some salt, pepper, garlic granules and onion flakes also added a bit of chili powder
Spritzing every hour or so with a mix of apple cider vinegar and water.
Colour is close to where I want on both cuts so might look at wrapping soon.

If all else fails, a quick trip to a cake shop, put it on a pretty plate, destroy the box (she'll never know) lol

I'm very interested in the outcome of chuck.
I've never used it, or seen a cooked one.
Is it treated much like a brisket? -
she already knows it's turning into a but of a disaster
She informed as I started the oven in our rental isn't great for baking. She's right... next time the cake goes in the Kamado

Is it treated much like a brisket?I guess I treat it more like pork (cooking wise) as I serve it pulled.
-

Is it treated much like a brisket?Sue, click on 'chuck' in the tag cloud (it's on the right hand side of the forum home page and use the arrow to expand the box if you can't see the cloud). There are several good posts on cooking a chuck.

looks good mate!
although maybe stick to bbq haha
-
Haha agreed. For some reason one of the cake halves only rose on one side hence it tipping.
Girlfriend says the oven is no good in our rental... i blame my lack of baking skills still tasted alright.
Next time I think a pulled pork cake will suffice though
-
Mate, if you're not used to baking then thats a great effort & i would be stoked if my hubby attempted a cake for me, so full marks for that on its own.
Its not the gift, but the effort put into it that counts. -
Haha thanks. Fair bit of effort went into it so was disappointed with the presentation. Had to make the sponge, chocolate butter cream and chocolate ganache from scratch. Guests were disappointed I didn't make the honeycomb from scratch

The meat looks a winner

Baking...now there is a hard thing to learn! I learned the hard way there is no dash of this and a pinch of that. Exact or Die...
-
haha yeah 'exact or die' is precisely why I don't bake!
