Just asking if anyone has had expirience with Igrills or other types of pit and meat probes
Pit temp probes like Igrill and Maverick

I have a Maverick which seems to work well.

I've tried the cheaper type and they all failed. Maverick for me too. (ET 732 still going strong)

I hear the thermapens are very good. A mate of mine has an iGrill and one of the thermapens and swear by both.

Ok I have a Igrill2 ambient probe became faulty probably my fault but anyway after emailing back and forth confirming time and person of purchase. Igrill sent the be probe straight out air freight with a new stubby holder turned up within the week, excited I opened up the packet to find a meat probe bugger. 1 email to Igrill and a new one was dispatched that day and email apology no request to send the meat probe back. Great service for a great product.

I've got my eye on the Maverick ET-735, takes 4 probes and has Bluetooth. If anyone has one id be interested to hear how they perform, accuracy etc... I like the idea of being able to monitor meat and cook temp remotely from my phone.

They would perform the same as the 732 and that is great, but with more functions and I'd spend a lot more time looking under the hood if I didn't have that telling me what's going on.

Remember it is only as far as your Bluetooth stretches!!

my Maverick e732 has been faultless. Well worth the money. The alarms are an added bonus. Can catch a wee snooze between playing with the fire and the Mav will wake me up if the fire starts to die or gets too hot

I recently bought a second 733 as my original was a good thing and a second is handy. My thought process was A the stand alone remote has great range, B great battery life (insurance on overnighters) C the alarm is sure loud enough
The Bluetooth range can be problematic for some people on the device types and well I don't know enough about the device features to really comment.
For me the 733 works perfectly for my needs

Bluetooth range shouldn't be an issue for me. Tested with a Bluetooth speaker and my phone, only a couple of black spots in the house.

I've never had a problem with Bluetooth not connecting. The receiver sits in the kitchen and there are a couple of walls between that and the sender on the back deck. They should be fine for 90% of home needs.

iGrill Mini here (single probe unit). Never done the boil test but it always reads very close to my metal meat probe when I've double checked a chook.
It has easily customisable peak and range settings (the defaults are all yanky and the peaks were a bit low for my taste), connects easily and reconnects seamlessly. The killer feature is the graph of the temperature history. I've used the chart many times to predict when the roast will hit the set point pretty accurately. With the few low and slows I've tried, the history is also very handy to see if you have a ramping up or cooling pit without needing to eyeball the current temp regularly.
Bluetooth performance in real world usage is as to be expected.
Edit: I would buy the iGrill2 (four probe unit) in a heart beat if I could get one for a reasonable price... BTW I only payed $50 for my mini when BBQ galore used to stock them. Last place in Aus I saw Mini's was the AppleStore for $80 + shipping.

Where is the best place to grab an iGrill?
-
I got mine direct but Chris has the Mavericks i think ask on Saturday

Not sure on that one Narkee but they were bought out by Weber recently http://www.macrumors.com/2016/02/10/web…n-thermometers/
I'm in the market for a new thermometer and I like the look of the iGrill2 but not sure whether to hold out in the hope of heavily discounted units if they re-brand them or just take the plunge.
Edit: Looks like they will be rebranding, I will be holding off to see if there are any decent discounts for the end of line stock.

New versions of the products are planned for the spring of this year, and we’re guessing they’ll include Weber branding to take advantage of the company’s 60 year history of selling grills and accessories. -
