It can be done, just a bit messy. -
Put a $10 BBQ liner on top like the Buddy non stick liner from Bunnings to fry eggs, tomatoes etc.

Oh well, think how excited you'll be Xmas morning.
Luckily xmas was done with the inlaws yesterday so i got my grates now. Cooking some steaks for dinner. So excited. -

Nothing like an early present. Get them good and hot before the steaks go on.
I'm a big believer of flipping of steaks often during the cook and also rotate them through 90 degrees as well, so I get good criss-cross grill marks.

Grill Grating they are great have some fun reverse searing works for me.
Practice makes perfect and there are plenty of options for you to try on the Grill Grates for sure. -
I put my GG's to the test on Mothers day with some short/fat pork snags, hash browns, normal bacon, maple marinated bacon and maple marinated prosciutto.
Unreal, really impressed especially with how the hash browns turned out and snags. Bacon/prosciutto was to die for and never stuck to the grates.
No pictures though, everything cooked real quick on the Weber with the GG's I spent an hour prepping and 10 minutes cooking if that!
Next test is reverse sear. Dragon to slow cook/smoke then the Weber with GG's to sear. Photo's will be taken for scientific documentation purposes...

hey - lvoe reading through this thread (and plenty of others) - apologies for the late post given this hasnt been active much lately
My question re grill grates (which i love the idea of and will definitely be buying) is when using them on coal fired does it effect the flavour? Do you still get that same flavour profile (i.e. on steaks) or is some of it lost given the steaks are a bit more protected than on a direct grill?? -

I don't bother using GGs with charcoal as I usually have no trouble getting it hot enough and prefer the cast iron grill of my BSK. I use them almost exclusively for my Weber gas BBQ.
-
They still take on the flavour as there’s a rake of small holes through them for smoke to pass through. I generally only use them for high heat stuff - steaks, burgers and chicken breast etc. but I’ve noticed recently their handy on something that is marinate heavy or fatty as they stop bad flare ups.

Good for fish

And excellent for sausages on the Weber Q, lid down and no flair ups. Also great for veggies.
