Own a CharGriller Akorn or BBQ G Dragon?
Why not share with the potential Kamado owners what's so great about the Akorn or Dragon?
All Kamados have their special features. The ones on the Akorn/Dragon might just be what they are looking for!

The best features I like about the Akorn are:
Pros
- The price - got my Dragon for $300.
- The flexibility - low'n'slow up to serious heat for 5 min pizzas
- Robustness - no need to bring it up to temp slowly, you're not going to crack the metal bowl (have cracked a couple of pizza stones, though...)
Cons
- Find it hard to control a constant stream of smoke when doing l'n's. I just get 30 mins or so of smoke whenever the coals find another chunk of wood in the charcoal pile.
Try using an a-maze-n smoking tube.
Also try this for added smoke
This is from BBQ Galore. They often discount it to in the $20-$25 range
Just fill up the box with pellets and pop it on the grill or deflector.
The other thing to try is to get some wood chips, soaked or not soaked. Wrap in foil. Poke some holes in the top and put it on the charcoal. This will make a controlled smoke release through the holes in the foil.
My Dragon is farkin green I hate green procrastinated for 3 weeks over the colour but grabbed it in the end of the owner breeder and trainer was going to by the ceramic one.
After fixing the air leaks I can control the temp from about 90 up easily. On special from BBG for $299 and very durable and versatile. I mainly use it for low and slow but have grilled chicken And Turkey and a couple of steaks.
Everything else from BBG seems to be 15% more than other shops.

12x7 I have never smoked CDs before probably smokey though
Just joking

I've got one of the a-maze-n thingys. It works brilliantly for child smoking, but find it always puffs out when I put it in the Kamado. Not enough air in there to maintain the burn, I reckon.
Going to try a smaller pile of charcoal, and mix the wood thoroughly through it before I light it, next time.

Those children are hard to light.

CD, what CD? I thought it was a beer coaster

I have exactly the same issue using the Amazin tray style smoke generator in the kamado. It goes out because the charcoal is demanding all the available oxygen.

it's not the mainstream thing with kamados but on shorter cooks you can drop a small waterpan in the center of the fire box and fashion a snake of types around it with lump, smoke on top. It's an easy way of getting regular smoke but cuts you burn time down quite a bit.
I also love my Akorn. What's not to love? It's so versatile. Low and slow, searing, pizza, bread etc. It all works. And a Weber grate fits the lowest rack for super hot steak searing. Awesome.
Also I got mine new for $210 but it's worth the full price.

At that price, did you wear a mask and carry a gun ?

Haha. No my armed hold up days are behind me..
No, I got it when it was a clearance item at bunnings. Then a few weeks later they were back on the shelf. Go figure?

What size/model weber is the grate from? I'm assuming you mean the one where you put the charcoal on? I'll keep my eye open for one during council clean-up.

Yep, that one.
It is also a part you can buy new, but free is better!
Another one I really like.. how little fuel you use for the heat you get.
You can do a full on pizza party but then find you've still got plenty of charcoal left for the next time. So good.
I'm hoping for another Bunnings run out sale at the end of summer so I can add an Akorn to the arsenal
