When ya food just has to be on the table at 6pm ay mate?
-
Chris, is that burner turned way down in those pics? The one I have makes you stand a metre further back than that even when it's just low enough to go from pilot to blue flame.
-
Where do you blokes using propane and butane get them refilled?
Is it perhaps worth using an LPG swap n go? -

This is Route 66. We do it in every BBQ School...if there is a girl in the class....it's her job!

Yes, it's a lower pressure....even then when we arc it up, it roars and the girls freak! Just a $30 roofers torch from Ebay

Is it called a roofers torch? Is that what I should search for?

Weed torch, roofers torch, I'm not sure of what the difference is. I bought mine from here but Chris's is much cheaper. The first one I bought was much smaller and less efficient

It's a Roofers Torch, weed torches are longer, just look for Gas Torch on ebay.

Got one of those cheapies and never trusted it. It's only because UG said they were about $30 that it got me interested. But the ones I'm seeing on ebay are a bit more now and out of impulse buying range.

So my Looflighter died and I found this old thread.
People here seem to have moved on to heat guns. These comments are a little old, so just checking if you lot are still happy with your heat guns for lighting charcoal?
There is quite a range at bunnings, from $23 xu1, to $100 wagners with led display. Also others like a ryobi which has a temp range from 50 degrees through to 600. I'm guessing 50 is almost like fan only.
So what are you using now for charcoal?
-
Mine was from aldi, I think about $25 and has 3 temp settings and a few different nozzles for different applications. Works just as well as the loofty did. You'd be hard pressed finding the aldi one now though but at least it shows a cheapy can last a while.

I used a $20 XU1 for a few years. I think it lasted me 3-4 years which is quite a bit more than both of my loofts combined. It costs half as much as a looft and is faster. I like the on off switch as well instead of having to keep a button pressed. Also the Bunnings warranty is a good safeguard (I think they have a 2 year wty).
Now I'm using a very old Wagner (15 years old or more) which was regurgitated by the garage a few years ago. I've been using that for a bit over a year and when it breaks I'll get another cheap paint stripper gun. I'm done with loofts. -
Thanks @Narm Naleg, that is precisely the feedback I was after.
I also got this responce from Chris in another thread so thought I'd repost it here as it's more relevant. The price of this one is also pretty competitive against the paint strippers.
I'll probably get a cheapie for now and see how it goes. I do like the long wand of the type Chris sells though as it keeps a bit of distance from the lit coals. (And I can always keep the cheapie in the shed as a backup)
I sell the Flaming Coals one because it has fan only mode.
-
Yep i have had 3 different ones Wazza fan only works great
-
Still like the old looft. Andrew and Pam down in Melbourne just got a load in. https://www.facebook.com/thequeclub/

Glad I found this thread! Took some digging but a Looftlighter was high in my list, just think there is a better way than using samba lights. Would have been disappointed to spend 120 on a looft that broke within 2 years.
-
Old thread but since it’s bumped. “Hammerbarn” sell a Ozito branded looflighter rip off. I have one and it’s ok.
Tobe honest I just do a small chimney and walk away and when the coals are going I put the hot coals into the prepared coal-bed/snake of what ever I’m going to cook in.
