Hi all, Just bought a secondhand Kegerator and pretty sure there's a few here that also run them. Love to hear any hints or tips on how to get the most out of the new toy.
Cheers,

Make sure the tap is at the lowest point.
I've got a Keg King Series III, running 3 x Perlick flow-control taps.
I love it, even though I once had to replace the control panel.
First pour can be a little foamy, as the beer in the line is a little warm, but I just throw away the first 50 ml, and she's all good.
Currently have a Hefeweizen, a Smoked Marzen and a Bock on tap. Life is good.
I've got the keg king series 4 running 2x intertap SS Taps and a picnic tap inside.
The series 4 comes with a font fan that's meant to stop the foaming from the first pour, it works ok but like warmbeer says above, the first 50ml or so is just foam.
Do you mean have the keg above the tap??

The one I bought would only read in Fahrenheit so bought a new panel. One of my mates told me that you could get a new circuit board that would let you get the temp down to -4 so grabbed one of those and fitted it at the same time.

Does the font fan blow cold air from the fridge up into the font? Guess that what it does. Might be bale to retro fit one to my older model
Thanks for the input guys. I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun with these toys.
Cheers, Wayne

Sorry Wayne, i've just seen this question. Yes that's exactly what it does, there's a fan with a length of piping which pushes up to the top of the font that blows cold air in, it really does keep the font nice and cool.
On a separate note, be careful if you force carb a keg and then turn your regulator back down to serving pressure - i.e. you have you a keg connected that you want to carb up quick so you set your reg to 30-40 psi and leave it for 24-48 hours, after you do this remember to disconnect the gas disconnect, release the pressure from the keg and then reduce the pressure on your regulator - if you leave the keg connected, when you lower the pressure on the reg, the higher pressure in the keg can force beer back up the gas line and into your regulator.
A couple of brews into the Kegerator thing now and have found that the kegs seem to be a bit light on for head retention/foam at teh start but get better as beer gets pulled off and the level drops. Just when I think I have it "right" the keg runs out and I tap a new one and go through the same thing.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Cheers, Wayne

how long are your lines?
try to run about a 3 meter line.
are you force carbing?
Found someone selling a spare lid for a 40l Engel on gumtree. So for 20 bucks for the lid, 20 bucks for a font made out of an adjustable table leg from bunnings, i can now turn my engel into a kegerator for camping. Oh and $100 for 2x 5L party kegs. I already had all the taps and plumbing from my old beer fridge.
That seems a bit much for camping! The font I mean, not the kegs. Did you consider using pluto guns and having the whole setup (kegs, pluto guns and gas) in the fridge?
I know someone with a mini wheelie bin with taps on top. holds 1 or 2 (cant remember) 18l cornies and fills it with ice. I just take cans
Nice project tho
Bduza it probably is a bit overkill, pluto guns etc I could do with the normal engel. Its not often a spare lid comes up, so i took it as a challenge to get creative.
Its really only going to be used for one trip a year, where a big group of us go and this engel just gets used for beer. On normal family trips it gets used for food and drinks, so the normal lid and bag will be used then.
