• Hi Guys and Girls,

    What is your go to all purpose rub?

    I don't want 10 different rubs in cupboard, just a good all purpose rub whether retail or homemade.

    Just finished Mad Hunky GP and need a replacement by next weekend

    Recommendations????.

  • We use Bob Harts all purpose, (I think it's in his book, which I'm sure you have). ;)

    It's similar to a lot of others like Steven Raichlen's Basic BBQ Rub.

    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1/4 cup sweet paprika
    3 tbl spoons black pepper
    3 tbl spoons course salt
    1 tbl spoon hickory smoked salt (or more course salt if you have none)
    2 teaspoons garlic powder
    2 teaspoons onion powder
    2 teaspoons celery seeds
    1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

    Commercial rubs I use are Oakridge rubs, their Santa Maria Grill Seasoning is nice.

    I've cleared that up in my post. It's 4 salt in total but one of smoked if you have it.

    I sometimes add in small amounts, cumin, cardamon,cinnamon, corriander seed or cardamon. Depends on how experimental I am feeling.
    I have been making a lot of biltong recently and would like to try some of the biltong rubs on bbq meats as well.
