What? More stock coming?
If you are to believe the H.B. web site it is still saying that Bunnings are no longer stocking the 16kg pack.
My guess is that they are just clearing what stock they have on hand.

So I emailed HB's. Here is there response.
Are you looking for the Original Heat Beads (16kg) carton? Metro stores will have stock in the next week or so.
Blue Bag 10kg Coconut Shell is on range at Bunnings, they have not deleted it, your local store may just be out of stock.
So, the original Carton will be back at Bunnings! Woo Hoo!
There was a big pellet load at Bunnings in Vermont Sth this morning.
Guys, new to the forum, about to buy an Akorn, and just wanted to quickly hijack this thread as it seems to be what I need.
Basically just want to know what fuel I should be buying for low and slow smoking. From this thread I'm assuming a mix of Original Heat Beads and Coconut Shell Heat Beads?
Then I guess some sort of wood chips (Hickory? Any suggestions for brand or location for buying that? Happy to shop online if need be). I'm in Melbourne.
Also just quickly, any thing else I should be picking up (on the lis so far I have heavy gloves, light gloves for rubs, metal trays, maybe a chimney but otherwise some Redheads firelighters or similar in the meantime)?
Thanks and let me know if I should just make a new thread

New thread might be ideal, as you really should be using lump in a Komodo. I'll let the Komodo guys chime in from here.

For the akorn you would be better off buying a 20kg bag of heat bead brand natural lump and a pack of samba natural firelighters.
Sounds like you have everything else sorted.
Brilliant, thanks guys
Agree with Swampy, use lump charcoal and not heat beads. Also, the rule for charcoal price is anything under $2 per kg is fine, over is too dear.
Where are you located, we can point you in the right direction for good charcoal which may be available.
As others have said, uUse charcoal rather than charcoal bricks. You can use a cheap heat gun (the paint stripper variety) to start it quick smart in a metal Kamado such as the akorn.

I'm in Melbourne, around Highpoint area. Definitely interested in the best place to get wood for smoking as well but I'll start a new thread for that

As mentioned, Bunnings now have affordable lump for $38.50 / 20KG, which is something they didn't stock until a short time ago.
If you want to travel, I get mine from Aussie BBQ Smoke in Carrum Downs. It's red gum and they are $40 for a 20KG bag. (Last time I was there we got them for $35)
or down in the same general direction is
AP Fuel Merchants
(Just avoid their stick and branch stuff, it's imported and stinks)
