With the price of a bag of head beads now the same price as Kingsford and other brands, kettle and bullet Q owners are considering alternate fuel options.
One of the complaints about Kingsford compared to Head Beads is the shorter burn time.
Here's two techniques to improve the burn time for Kingsford briquettes.
I noted with interest a post about mixing coconut shell briquettes with the Kingsford and the combination results in an overall great long burn time.
I came across this youtube by Baby Back Manic for the Adrenaline Barbecue Company who makes the Slow n Sear.
Around the 5:30 minute mark he talks about the SnS set-up he used to cook the turkey. He uses a technique of first putting in new unlit briquettes into the basket and then a chimney of lit briquettes. As well as resulting in a longer burn time you get the smell of the briquette.
Because KIngsford is made out of sawdust, when it burns it gives off a nice smoke smell. Compared to the way some other briquettes are made this gives KIngsford a preference for certain type of cooks as some other briquettes when they are first burnt, the volatiles add a bad flavour to the food.
