PERTH. The ABA has today been given an option to Sanction a Perth Comp around the 20th Feb if there is enough interest. Min 8 teams required to make it happen. Who's keen to compete?

Bit short notice I think. Any idea where it will be held?
Perth. Here's Adam's email if not on social. Adam@ausbbq.com.au
There must be some Perth guys from here who would be interested?
The first team from SFaF (who confirm on this thread) that they have signed up to compete at this Perth comp -
I will supply gratis some Oakridge rubs (if they wish) for them to to practice with and then use at this Comp if it goes ahead.
cheers
BTW: there is no affiliation to this proposed event or to the ABA
Good one SJ!
For years there's been forum folks asking for one of these in the west. Well here's your chance! In 2016 there is also a national competition that your best team hand in scores rank you nationally.
Have a go with a team or register an interest to be there to help or be trained as a judge! Good fun in any capacity.
Wow, that is short notice!
I've got BBQ School on that day...so no good, I won't even be able to go for a sticky beak.
The only other one in WA is Anzac Day......also no good.
Doesn't give much time to get ready, why so soon?
Where would you have it?
It is a bit short notice with no definite date set, would love to go, but am not geared up for anything like it yet..... equipment etc, also never had the pleasure of going to a competition, so there would obviously be specifics in preferences as preparation and presentation etc, of which I would be too unsure

Only if you compete in three events and I doubt we'll see three events on the West Coast...
Not sure if I can do it time and/or money wise at the moment. Not sure about the rest of the Boarshank guys...
Not that I know comp cooking anyways, I'll be stuck on a remote site. No chance here.

Yes, I read that, they should say it's a comp for easterners only!
Good effort from the ABA getting on board with BBQ's Galore, but don't call it a National Ranking till it really is.
a tad short on notice and prep time but at least there's a comp here for those that can make it.
I'd be in like a shot to have a go at it but like Smokin in the City this year I'll be away at work.
If I can help out anyone that wants to have a go yell out.
Cheers, Wayne

Looking on the bright side, if this one gets off the ground, we only need 2 more to make it fly. One good thing is that they'd end up being dotted around Perth metro so that'd make logistics easy.
Hmmmmm , ...... Maybe we could set one up?
Cheers, Wayne
Haven t been west for a while. What are the organized "BBQ" events in WA for competitors sanctioned by some body or not for 2016? Saw UG mention this one. http://smokininthecit.wpengine.com/smokin-in-the-…-photo-gallery/
Smokin is the only comp that's been run in Perth that I'm aware of. It's not sanctioned by any anyone though.

Only NSW has 3 this year. Perhaps QLD will shortly too. Everybody travels with their kit some place to cook over on this coast. A couple of teams now FIFO.

But it runs loose KCBS rules.
Maybe one of the Swan Valley wineries like Oakover....run by the same guys who are doing the Cider and Pork one in Vic this weekend!
SA competitors will have trouble unless they go to Melb, and then of course the pointy heads who live on the triangle..they'll have trouble as well, and NT...well that's just not happening!....So 3 out of 7 makes it "National". It's like the Septics saying World BBQ Championships, I suppose....what they really mean is just them.
Cheers
Chris

I think there are now 5 this year in NSW.
That all started from just 1 or 2 in NSW a couple of years ago. VIC & QLD have at least a couple this year.
So with WA, it would be nice if it was the same - from small acorns do mighty oaks grow.
I'd rather smoke the oaks in the Akorn

Aye, might be worth the ABA liaising with Professional Misconduct (the company in charge of Pork & Cider). They run quite a few events in the Swan Valley and are a Perth-based company.
